Plan for the coldest section
Look at the route before the forecast. Exposed descents, early starts and shaded roads often need more wind control than the average temperature suggests.
Keep breathability in the system
If every layer is too warm, moisture builds quickly. Pair a breathable base or jersey with a vest or jacket that solves the specific problem: wind, light chill or variable starts.
Build a repeatable kit
Choose pieces that work together across several routes. A light base layer, dependable jersey and packable outer layer can cover more conditions than one heavy piece alone.
